Functions only available in VPW and only GM?
02/24/10 at 15:58:59

Say is it true to say that pretty much only GM cars use VPW?  And does that list include the Chevrolet cars as well as they are a GM brand?

And more to my real goal here, are things like window control and door locks only available on VPW?  When the manual says to use ATMA to look for window up or down it first says to switch into VPW mode (ATSP2).  When I try this on my Hyundai I get nothing in VPW mode obviously but I also can't find window control commands being run on the ISO 15765-4 CAN (11bit) protocol at all using ATMA.

So is VPW the only interface available to see all those commands and is GM the only cars you can see it on?

Chrysler used to use VPW also.

GM typically supports a lot of body control modules over the VPW bus (before they moved to CAN) so yes those commands are only for vehicles that use VPW for that purpose

So yes pretty much GM vehicles, some Chrysler vehicles should also support certain commands...

You mention "before they moved to CAN" so do newer GM models no longer support VPW?

And CAN can't do any interesting body controls like open windows, turn lights on and off, or change the "ding" intervals?
