[BLAZER 99] OBD2 or not ?
12/11/09 at 11:02:32

Hi,

I have a '99 Blazer, exported to Europe (maybe it's important).
I bought a scantool adapterELM327 + software, but  nothing is displayed !
Only $10 engine, and that's all.

Is that car (VIN : 1GNDT13W7XK209921) OBD2 compliant (no sticker no where) ?
What software use to be able to read the DTC ? (actually, the engine refused to start)

Is it a special software for this kind/year of GM models ?

thanks in advance for your help

Hi pierrem,

I have followed your posts on the other forum. I believe your vehicle is partially OBDII compliant because it does indicate the protocol and it also responds to the command 0100 with a list of supported pids. Unfortunately the 011C command does indicate that your vehicle is not OBDII compliant.

If you would like to download our OBD 2007 and then send me a diagnostic log file from your connection I would be happy to further diagnose your problem. As your vehicle does respond with a list of supported pids OBD 2007 will display various data. I doubt very much you will be able to read trouble codes with OBD 2007 as your vehicle has already indicated that it doesn't have any set, using the standard OBDII compliant commands.

Your vehicle wasn't required to be OBDII compliant in the EU at the time you purchased the vehicle. Therefore I think you will find that the manufacturer deliberately choose not to make the vehicle OBDII compliant.

Unfortunately to obtain the DTCs that are causing your MIL to be on, you will need to make use a factory scan tool.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your interest ...
I'll download the ODB2007 software and post here the results.

I think I have to agree to what you say about compliancy ... or not.

You mentionned a 'factory scan tool' ...
As far as you know, any way to get one copy or to emulate it ?
To go to nearest dealer to pass the factory test is not easy and will be very expensive, because of the distance and the need to tow the car.

Thanks again,
p

Hi Pierre,

I sent my reply to you last Sunday morning in reply to your email to me. Have you checked your spam and junk folders?

Do you have another email address I can send it to?

Pierre,
Did you ever figure it out? I'm the one who was in contact with you before going on vacation. Looking at your VIN number your vehicle was made here in the USA. The first digit (1) means that. I would still bet it is OBD2 compliant and you are not getting a code reply because it doesn't have any codes. You could always prove this by probably unplugging some sensors and setting some codes.

Hope you got it figured out
Mike
